James Oliver Curwood’s stories of action and adventure often topped the best-seller list in the early 1920s. At least eighteen motion pictures have been based on or directly inspired by his novels and short stories. At the time of his death, he was the highest paid (per word) author in the world.
Many (but not all) of the clearable Curwood books have been put into Project Gutenberg. However, many of them were done years ago—some as early as 14 years ago—and they reflect the practices of the times. They often are lacking illustrations. The text of the existing volumes in many cases have errors that modern proofing software can correct. Even the encoding of the orignal posting, ASCII or Latin-1, can be improved to UTF-8 such that the curly quotes and long dashes of the original edition can be represented. Finally, images of the original dust jackets are being gathered for use on the epubs posted on this site. This collection provides freely downloadable (in the U.S.) corrected, updated versions of Curwood's books in many popular formats.
